It’s a good day to
build something.

Hi, I’m John. I’m a husband, dad, software engineer, and jazz guitarist.

Moonlark Studios is my independent workshop for software, games, and ideas. I make things I wish existed. Maybe you’ll enjoy them, too.

Projects I’m working on

Resonant

Private beta

A music analysis app for learning by ear.

I learn a lot of music from recordings. Resonant grew out of wanting to hear individual parts more clearly, especially when they get lost in the mix, and work out how to play them.

ROMD

In development

A way to organize my retro game collection and choose what my kids can explore.

I wanted to introduce my kids to retro gaming and choose the games I shared with them. ROMD is where I organize and curate that collection.

Ottercade

In development

A simple way for my kids to browse and play their retro games.

Ottercade main menu with a horizontal game library and Super Smash Bros. selected. View larger

Ottercade connects to ROMD and brings the collection I’ve curated into a library my kids can explore on their own. I choose the games; they choose what to play.
